Fires A view of the fire that swept the original Island Queen, foreground, and the Chris Greene on the Cincinnati side of the Ohio River in 1922. Four steamers and two wharves were demolished when the blaze, caused by an overturned pot of tar, spread rapidly from one boat to the other. The original Island Queen was an entirely wooden steamboat built at the former Cincinnati Marine Ways. She was designed and built by Captain Samuel W. Cofflin.
